Snowmobiling in Shoshone County
Experience incredible mountain top views and abundant wildlife in the beauty of the Bitterroot Mountains. Ride along rivers and streams, watch eagles soar, take in the serenity or get your heart racing on the more than 1,000 miles of groomed trails. Easy trail access is available from Kingston to Mullan with designated warming huts and primitive facilities in the more remote areas. There is plenty of lodging in the area, including some that let riders ride right from the front door.
In warmer months, many of these trails offer access to back country hiking, camping, or fishing. The mountains are home to 40 alpine lakes, a variety of flora and fauna and views that have to be seen to be appreciated. Take a quick, easy afternoon hike or sleep along the shore of a pristine mountain lake with the Milky Way in clear view. Contact the Silver Valley and Wallace Chambers of Commerce for events and activities and explore the historic towns of Avery, Murray, Wallace, Kellogg, Cataldo and more.

- Groomer stickers are required for these trails and can be purchased at area businesses.
- Every snowmobile operated on private or public land must be registered with the Idaho Department of Parks and Recreation on or before November 1 of each year. Check the Idaho Parks and Recreation website listed under Resources for more information.
- Follow the basic rules of snowmobiling: don't ride alone, wear protective equipment, bring adequate supplies, and don't drink alcohol.
