Schweitzer Mountain | Sandpoint
While the 2,900 acres of skiable terrain, groomed tubing hills, and nearly 20 miles of Nordic trails set this northern Idaho destination apart, the views from Schweitzer Mountain are what make it one of the best places to visit in winter. From the top of the mountain, you’ll have an unparalleled view of Lake Pend Oreille (pronounced pon-duh-ray) and the nearby city of Sandpoint, just 13 miles away.
Bogus Basin Mountain Recreation Area | Boise
Just 16 miles north of downtown Boise, Bogus Basin is an accessible winter activity destination. One of the newest additions, the Glade Runner Mountain Coaster, is a thrilling family-friendly ride where you control the speed. We challenge you to not use the brake! It offers one-of-a-kind views of the slopes, treetops, and the Treasure Valley.
Kirkham Hot Springs | Near Lowman
Just two hours from Boise, you’ll spot the rising clouds of steam rolling off of Kirkham Hot Springs along the Wildlife Canyon Scenic Byway. These naturally-formed geothermal pools are scattered along the banks of the South Fork of the Payette River and offer a variety of sizes and water temperatures. Follow the steps down to the pools, settle in for a long winter soak, and watch the river flow by.
Castle Rocks State Park | Almo
Explore Castle Rocks State Park by day or by night. In the daylight, strap on a pair of snowshoes to explore the 2.5 million-year-old stone landscape and scale the reserve’s unique granite towers. By night, cozy up in the park’s Willow Glamping Yurt, or grab your coat and stand on the yurt’s porch to marvel at the stars overhead.
Idaho City
Idaho City, just 40 miles northeast of Boise, is a small historic town surrounded by mountains, rivers, and scenic backroads. Its location allows for easy access to some of the most peaceful snowshoe trails in southwest Idaho. Pair that with a few nights spent under the stars in a toasty backcountry yurt, and Idaho City is the total winter getaway.
