The J.A. & Kathryn Albertson Family Foundation Boise Whitewater Park is a public park with waveshapers that create waves suitable for green wave surfing. Accessible via the Boise Greenbelt, it is common to see SUP surfers and kayakers practicing their moves on the waves. The Boise Whitewater Park will expand in the coming years to allow for more whitewater features and events.

Things to Know

  • At normal river flows, the adjustable waveshapers create an approximately 20-foot wide primary wave and a longer 25-foot secondary wave suitable for "green wave" surfing.
  • In the spring when water levels are high, the wave shaper may not be adjustable. In which case the water flows uniformly over the surface of the dam in a wave appropriate for more advanced boaters.
  • Jetties on both sides of the river provide eddy service to both waves and slow water for boaters to enter and exit the river.
