Alice Lake Trail

Discover Alice Lake tucked away deep in the Sawtooth National Forest. This hike is the first, or last stop, depending on which direction you’re coming from, along the famous Tin Cup Hiker’s Loop. The Tin Cup Hiker’s Loop connects Alice and Toxaway Lakes with various other lakes by crossing over Snowyside Pass. Alice Lake is nestled between a jaw-dropping set of peaks commonly referred to as the “Dragon’s Back.” Hiking this trail can prove to be difficult in spring and early June due to the vast amounts of snow accumulation, but this outstanding trek is an absolute must in July, August, and early September.

- Trailhead starts at Petite Lake Campgrounds.
- No fees, fill out a backcountry permit at the trailhead.
- Dog-friendly, on leash only.
- Alice Lake can be a destination or a stop on a 2-3 day backpacking trip.
- Although rare, black bears have been spotted at the lake, be sure to take the necessary precautions.
- Anglers take note that Brook Trout are predominant in the lake.
- Strenuous hike.
- Bring bug spray.
